About the Press
BYR Publishing House was founded in Bishkek in 2008 to address a structural gap in Central Asian academic publishing: rigorous scholarship produced in the region was circulating almost exclusively within national language communities, rarely reaching the research libraries and citation networks where it could inform wider debate.
What we publish
We issue scholarly monographs, critical editions, and edited volumes in the Social Sciences and Humanities. Our list concentrates on the history, society, economy, and politics of Kyrgyzstan and the wider Turkic world, with particular attention to work that draws on primary archival and field material.
Every title is published in one or more of four languages — Kyrgyz, Russian, Turkish, and English — and carries the ISBN prefix 978-9967.
Editorial independence
The press is independent of any university, ministry, or political organisation. Acquisition decisions rest with the editorial board, and no title is accepted on the basis of subvention alone. Peer review is double-blind and conducted by scholars outside the author's own institution.
Distribution
Titles are deposited with the national libraries of the Kyrgyz Republic and Türkiye, listed in WorldCat, and distributed to research libraries across seven countries.
